Rewind a little. On Thur, SP open hse started. Quite a gd turnout bah, but Business sch quite empty. Lots of freebies! we saw ppl carrying new urban male paper bags and we were like Let's go and find the source of it! Thought maybe there's a NUM shirt inside?? At last rach took it and there's nothin much inside, just a hanky and a friskbee which kim insists is a car sunlight blocker.
After sch, we had CONB grp discussion. Sian sia! gotta go out and do survey. Our allotted area, Orchard Road & suntec, of all places. Town, so malu! Anw we divided the work so its easier to get respondents. Went to convention centre to meet rach, where all the hype of open hse is. Got food vouchers. And free cotton candy and popcorn! Got pink popcorn. Rach also used JH's coupons to treat me lunch! Alright, i know im downright cheapo, i'll face it.
I agreed to this p/t job. Door to door flyer distributor at Yishun, 2.30pm (that means gotta pon 2 lectures.) I just took it for fun and the exercise. The pay is seriously pathetic, 10 hdb blocks $20. I thought it would be just ~tiring, but its def more than that. To me it's like traumatising. Kena blister. Front of my right shoe splitted like a banana.
Things that ran thru my mind during the job:
[after first block] i wanna quit now and run away with the papers...
I've reached the last level, can i just jump down from here?
[came to staircase centre]Mm.. if i throw the papers from here, bet none will drop to the first floor..
If i quit halfway and just throw the papers away, will i get arrested some day?
At one point, i retardedly dropped the whole stack of papers, and everything just flew in different directions. I felt like bawling. and in my state of weariness and dreaminess, i expected some nice person to help me pick up. Shit, dreaming in broad daylight.
Oh oh! And got encounters with many dogs!! Bark until so fierce, so cute! One house, got 1 brown poodle, and 1 smaller white poodle. Freakin cute! And the best thing? The small one RAN out through the
unfenced doorgate and lick my leg. It didn't even have to squeeze thru. It came out and looked lost and hesitant, like it was its first time doing it. Damn shock, the owner was like "jiji! come back!" and i was pointing in horror at the dog and saying It just ran out! Think the owner thinks i'm afraid of dogs. In fact, i'm afraid the owner will just come home and find her dog missing one day.
Did 9 blocks from 2.30 to 7.30pm. Gave up on the last block. 5 traumatising hours of work- earn $22 inclusive of transport. Sad life. But i felt like a winner, cos i perservered for 9 blocks. I'll never ever look down on flyer distributors, cos it really takes a lot of energy and perserverence to keep going. And its like deja vu, doing same thing over & over agn.
I'M A WINNER.
